Welcome to the California Law Enforcement Association of Records Managers, CLEARS, web site. My name is Joseph Surges; I am the Records Manager for the Concord Police Department and have the pleasure of serving as the State Executive Board President for 2010. This truly is a great honor for me to serve once again as President.
CLEARS has 7 Chapters throughout the state. As a CLEARS member you will have the opportunity to attend monthly training meetings that focus on technology updates, legislative updates and continuing career development of professional supervisors and managers through resourceful networking.
CLEARS welcomes everyone who works in the arena of records management and the technological advancement of those records in any law enforcement field. Each and every person within this organization brings experience and resources that can and should be shared. If you’re not currently a member of CLEARS, join now. If you are a member, I encourage you to get more involved in your chapter and the organization. You will find it very rewarding to be a chapter officer, working with other members to improve the association and the records world.
2010 is going to be a very challenging year for all of us living here in California. Due to the economic turmoil in the nation, all public agencies are still facing some very difficult times; agencies have laid off staff and have had deep budget cuts. Cities and counties are struggling as we wait to see how the state is going to solve its budget problems. These times are difficult on everyone but I believe they may also give us some good opportunities. We just have to be on the lookout for them and be able to react to it when it comes along. These tough times may allow us to strengthen out ties with other organizations like ours, to work together to provide solutions that can work for everyone. On the State Board this year, we will be working on updating our 5 year plan, seeing where we plan on going in the future.
Come November 2010, will be our annual Training and Technology Seminar. This year we will be in Monterey and the host hotel will be the Hyatt. The hotel is conveniently located near all the sites and attractions that Monterey has to offer and has been completely renovated since our last visit there. I always look forward to seeing everyone, getting some great training, meeting with our Corporate Sponsors and other vendors.
I look forward to serving as your Executive Board President and look forward to meeting many of you. Be safe and be well.
Respectfully,
Joe Surges, President
California Law Enforcement Association of Records Supervisors
