LISA SCHEFF

CLEARS Executive Board President

Welcome! It is both an honor and a privilege to serve again as the 2020 CLEARS Executive Board President.  I learned a lot last year and am ready to get busy working on behalf of all members.  You’re in great hands with the executive board that is comprised of 7 Chapter Presidents and Appointees working together to promote activities that serve CLEARS members statewide.

Above all, CLEARS, Inc.  is a training organization that was started 45 years ago with the purpose of assisting Records Professionals get the specialized education and training needed for a successful career in Law Enforcement Records.  Although it was founded by and for Records Supervisors and Managers, the association has grown to include talented Associate members that would like to transition into a supervision role, or just be the best Records professional they can be.  Membership draws from Police, Sheriff, State Universities, Dispatchers and various other disciplines.  It doesn’t matter how much, or how little experience you have with Records Information Management because CLEARS has something for everyone.

Arguably, the most valued benefit of CLEARS Membership is the opportunity to network with other members throughout the state.  The depth of knowledge combined with the varied pool of experienced CLEARS members is undoubtedly our greatest resource.  We are stronger together.  Go to training and meet as many people as you can!  I urge you to get involved in CLEARS by participating in our many committees or consider a future opportunity as a Chapter Officer.  Reach out to fellow members for assistance.

Information Management and the demand for data increases each year.  CLEARS tracks legislation and partners with our advocates at Warner, Pank, Salzillo and Sanchez to help educate and track legislation that affects all law enforcement, specifically those that impact Law Enforcement Records.  New bills are introduced every year and staying on top of all of them and they flow through the legislative process is another way the CLEARS members stay informed.  We also have excellent Corporate Sponsors.

Take advantage of Chapter Monthly Training Meetings and the Annual Training and Technology Seminar.   We are fortunate to have a variety of trainers that concentrate on supervisory and management skills as well as representatives from the California Department of Motor Vehicles and Department of Justice that will show you how to navigate through updates and answer your questions.  The 47th Annual Training and Technology Seminar will be held the week of October 26-30th, 2020 in Oxnard.  The Seminar Director and team are planning a great event.

Act now:  new or renew your membership today!  We welcome past, present and new members.  We also treasure or retired and Lifetime members as well.

Thank you for your CLEARS Membership,

Lisa Scheff, Executive President
California Law Enforcement Association of Records Supervisors, Inc.
